The Old Land
Ein Ketzer Almanach
Simply titled “A Heretic’s Almanac” in New Middle Ydic, this rare book is an indispensable and frequently irreverent resource to any who can find a copy of it. Written mostly in a formal style, its anonymous author (called ‘Brech’, possibly the most common name in the Ydic language) will often lapse into a parochial style to satirize his subject matter. Naturally, this makes the Almanach very controversial, since Brech’s subject matter is most of known Ealdland, its peoples, its religions, and its nations. Those fortunate enough to have found more than one copy of the book may realize that it is actively updated every decade or so. Readers who have somehow gained access to older copies of the book and can compare them to recent editions will further realize that it is either being written by multiple people throughout time, or its author is very long-lived indeed. The oldest copies date back to before the Abelardian Calendar.
